When I concentrate on an important task that requires time, focus, and full mental engagement, all the other pending, relatively easy tasks come to mind, demanding attention. Consequently, I can’t focus on my primary task until I complete these smaller tasks. What do you do in this situation?
When the urge to tackle a small task is overwhelming, I address it immediately if it takes less than 10 minutes. Otherwise, I categorize the task within the Time Management Matrix in my mind.
Depending on its placement, I take appropriate actions. For example, paying utility bills is unimportant since it doesn’t contribute to my future goals, but if the deadline is approaching, it is urgent, and I will try to delegate the task. If delegation is not possible, I decide whether to do it now or later. If later, I schedule a suitable time in Google Calendar with notification on to handle the task. This approach helps me avoid minor task distractions and stay focused on completing larger tasks that will benefit me in the future.
